Start your trip with a panoramic tour of the charming town of Cartagena.
Then, travel on to visit the World Heritage Site and ‘Palm Forest of Europe’ – Elche. Set in the heart of Costa Blanca, Elche is surrounded by thousands of palm trees, which were originally introduced by the Phoenicians in around 300 B.C. Enjoy a stroll along the meandering paths between the ponds and the abundant plants, shrubs, trees and cacti in the delightful Priest’s Garden. The focal point of the garden is the magnificent eight-trunked ‘Imperial Palm’. During your visit, enjoy specially prepared tastings of local produce including dates, fig bread, and date liqueur, while you watch a palm tree pruning demonstration. In the old town, you visit la Basílica de Santa Maria, a blue-domed baroque church, restored in the 17th century where the yearly passion play, the ‘Mystery of Elche’ is held. This is the only passion play that is permitted by the Vatican to take place inside a church and declared by Unesco as World Heritage. Elche is the main Spanish city for shoe manufactures. Some famous shoe factories are placed here. We will visit one of them with possibilities of baying shoes at factory prices. After some free time for lunch and strolling at the magnificent Municipal Park.
